I have tried multiple programs, codecs, and methods of mpeg2 encoding, all of which have not produced results up to my standards

so far the only thing that works are wmv files...

these tend to utilize way to much of the cpu and there is nothing I can do about it aside from encoding in a different format.

I want to make them mp4, which has a seamless loop, and uses virtually no cpu cycles, but the current iteration of dreamscene can't use it...

I do not plan on releasing any more dreams until more format support is added to the software.

wait... it doesn't work in ultimate?

heh

in any case, it's a very nice program, but I can't help but wonder why you would be interested in my work if it can't play .dreams (granted, the video files can be extracted)

well, I'm going to stand by my comment... I'd rather just wait for format support.
(encoding wmv feels like such a waste of time)

surely it won't be much longer... isn't sp1 is already in the works?
although, I have heard nothing of dreamscene support...

I believe you miss read that. It works in all versions of Vista, it is not limited to Ultimate edition.

DeskScapes will be extending its support on video formats in the future.  .WMV files really aren't that bad on most modern machines though.

The reason Microsoft picked .mpg and .wmv are because all Windows Vista Ultimate PCs are able to decode those videos.  .mp4 etc require additional decoders which the user would have to download.

In general you should pick .mpg because that will use the least cpu, though the files will be much larger than a WMV of the same quality.
